Philena and Phebe McKeen came to Abbot Academy in 1859. With a background in which education was strongly encouraged, both Philena and Phebe were open to learning everything. While Phebe, who taught at Mt. Holyoke for three years, focused more in the humanities, Philena was interested in art history and Bible study. This allowed them to bring new ideas to their students each year.
